Outdoor Islamic Activity for Children: Teaching Tawheed Through Allah’s Creation

Assalāmuʿalaykum wa raḥmatullāhi wa barakātuh

I wanted to share this beneficial lesson we did yesterday using one of my free Islamic resources — Allah’s Creation Scavenger Hunt — with a group of Muslim children aged from 3–7. May Allah bless them and keep them firm upon the pure fiṭrah.

Islamic Outdoor Learning Activity Based on Tawheed Ar-Ruboobiyyah

I planned a trip to the local park in our area for the children, some who are homeschooled and some who attend school. As we have been studying the āyah “Allah is the Creator of all things”, we’ve been focusing on the first category of Tawheed from this book: My First Islamic Studies Book – Junior Level.

I’ve been simplifying the words for the children and using worksheets and activity-based lessons to teach this category of Tawheed — Tawheed Ar-Ruboobiyyah — the Oneness of Allah in His Lordship: creating, owning, and controlling everything.

Our Park Trip: Hands-On Learning with a Scavenger Hunt

So yesterday, we had an absolute blast with our scavenger hunt — alhamdulillāh! We walked to the park and I sat the children down in a circle. We discussed what we have been learning so far, and I told them that today we were going to do something fun!

I just want to add here — to make things easier for the children — I bought them some clipboards from a shop named Home Bargains here in the UK for £1. These clipboards help the paper stay in place and not blow away with the wind. They also help when writing on the worksheets or ticking things off the scavenger hunt. The pen doesn’t go through the paper and create holes. As you will see through this post, we still had complete sheets with no holes at the end of our lesson — alhamdulillāh

Connecting Nature to the Creator

After explaining to the children that we are continuing our lessons on Tawheed and the things Allah created, controls, and owns, I told them we were going on a scavenger hunt. I handed them the clipboards and worksheets, and off we went! After a 3–2–1 countdown, the children started to run, search, and observe everything on the list and in the park.

From pigeons and birds to colourful pink flowers, water, and spider webs underneath park benches and at the bottom of trees — to running to the duck pond in search of ducks — Allāhumma bārik lahum 💕 The children were in awe of Allah’s creations — may Allah bless them. Each child was fully engaged, as you can see from our images.

After all that running, we sat down for some fruit and water snacks — and guess what happened? A fallen-out tooth! Yes, I’ve had all sorts in my hands from my years of teaching, but this has to be up there with the best — a child’s tooth from eating one of the apples 🍎 I presume, lol.

Islamic Worksheets and Role Modelling

It was time for the next activity — to use our writing skills and reflect upon the blessings from Allah, the One Who created all things. Subḥān Allāh! Within this resource, I’ve added a worksheet for those able to write in Arabic and English and fill in some missing words. I also included a copywriting activity for our littler ones — may Allah bless them for always striving to work hard and keep up with the older children.

I always say there’s a blessing in mixing some of the older children with the younger ones. It’s good role modelling for them, and they learn what is expected in seeking knowledge, manners, and character — alhamdulillāh.

Ending the Lesson with Joy and Reflection

We ended our lesson in the park with a few races — and yes, I had a go too — lol!

I wanted to share this lesson so that mums and teachers can see how easy it is to take a child outside and teach them about Allah’s creations — and how only He has power over all things.
